Notes

Tim Challans lives in Derbyshire but was originally from London. He worked as a town planner in East End, then got a job in the arts in the Midlands. He has worked in arts administration for many years and runs Walsall Cultural Services. He works on a project involving community cohesion in Walsall which uses the arts to bring groups and communities including refugees in the area together helping people understand other cultures. On the plinth he will be playing recorded messages from people of Walsall and throwing ribbons attached to balloons. There will people in the square who will be picking them up and putting them around the square. The messages are from the people of the project in Walsall expressing how art and culture is important in their lives. He is wearing a t-shirt with "we are Walsall on it" inscribed on it which is used for the project. He is about to leave work and be in semi-retirement.
