About this work

Description

Paleographia sacra or Discourses on monuments of Antiquity that relate to sacred history. Number II. A dissertation on the Mysterys of the Antients in an explication of that famous piece of antiquity, the Table of Isis. Author's holograph MS. Inserted the engraved 'Table of Isis' cut up into separate sections; though the 'Table of Isis intire' noted in the index of plates, as No. 1, is now wanting. Between fol. 70 and 71 are 3 engravings of a statue of Isis, not included in the list of plates, and not forming part of the 'Table'. On the verso of an inserted leaf between fol. 84, and fol. 85 is a pen-drawing of an inscribed stone, lettered 'Pomfret 9 jun. 1740.' Tabula X (before fol. 71) is dated 1738: the first leaf of the text is dated 1735. Our MS. No. 4725 is a later draft, dated 1744. Produced in Stamford.
