    The Principal School Dental Officer's Report continues to be a little more encouraging than in previous years. Mr. Shield’s makes the point that the acceptance rate for treatment following routine inspections was high; most parents were willing to accept compre- hensive treatment offered; that there is a changed attitude to the filling of primary teeth and that an increasing number of parents bring their children regularly for examination. To offset the tone of optimism however an investigation of the incidence of dental decay amongst five year old entrants to infants schools revealed that from a primary dentition of 20 teeth, on an average of 3 - 4 teeth were either decayed, missing or filled in each child. In submitting this report I would wish to express my thanks to all the staff of the School Health Service for their work throughout the year and to the Chief Education Officer for his co-operation and to his staff for their help.
