Biographical note
Alderson, Sir James (1794-1882), physician, born in Hull. In 1830, he became a fellow of the College of Physicians. In 1831, he helped to found the Hull and East Riding School of Medicine, where he became the first professor of medicine. In 1874, Alderson was appointed physician-extraordinary to Queen Victoria.
