About this work

Description

In October 2001 Jonathan Simms was diagnosed as having Variant CJD caused by BSE infected meat. This programme follows Jonathan's family's battle to save his life, in particular his parents, Don and Karan. When Jonathan was first diagnosed he was given six months to live until Don discovered a drug, Pentosan Polysulphate, on the internet which although cannot cure the disease it seems to help stop its progression. We see Jonathan having the drug pumped into his brain, and we hear about how Don is attempting to get health authorities to make PPS available to other patients with CJD.
