About this work

Description

From 1897 to 1902 this wooden building had served as a temporary recreation hall and was situated among the Retreat main buildings. In 1902, after fears that it was a fire risk, it was moved to the south east corner of the Retreat grounds to serve as a cricket pavilion. It was later used as a hut for occupational therapy before the occupational therapy centre was built in 1968 at the front of the Retreat building: for the hut in use as an occupational building, see photographs in RET 1/8/4/1.
