A small collection of miscellaneous documents in Portuguese or Spanish, 1810-1857.

1. Order for supplies addressed to the 'Commisario Geral [sic] dos Drogas Britanicos' in Celorico da Beira, Portugal. N.p., 22 July 1810.

2. Letters-patent of Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil, appointing Jorge Clarence to the post of 'capitão de fragata' in the Brazilian navy. Rio de Janeiro, 23 January 1828

Acquisition note

The documents were acquired from various sources: no 1 was purchased at Stevens, London, in March 1931 (acc.68126) and 2 at Stevens in August 1919, though only accessioned in January 1941 (acc.92243). No 3 was purchased at Sotheby's in February 1932 (acc.76075), and 5 from Charavay, Paris, in April 1931 (acc.64715). The provenance of documents 4 and 6 is unknown (although the former bears the erroneous accession number 89396).
