Description
A gold touchpiece. English. Touchpieces were presented at 'Healing by touch' ceremonies that were held by the monarch in England and France up until the 18th century. People believed that the monarch's touch had the power to heal the 'King's Evil' (Scrofula). Touchpieces were pierced so that they could be suspended by a ribbon and worn around the neck.
