About this work

Description

McCance and Widdowson showed that, unlike many other elements, the amount of iron in the body is not controlled by excretion, but by controlled absorption. The mechanism they suggested has been confirmed by subsequent work. Photograph of the injection into Dr Widdowson's arm of iron, calcium and magnesium.
