About this work
Description
The 1890s, like the 1880s, were a period of many minor alterations and improvements at the Retreat. Between the mid 1880s and the mid 1890s, for example, all the sanitary annexes were remodelled. The plans and drawings below relate to some of the works carried out in the 1890s. As well as lavatory block improvements, an enlarged store room was made, a boot room was added at the Gentlemen’s Lodge, a new large window constructed on the main staircase, and there were alterations in the laundry, and improvements in the grounds.
