Mark Budden is a psychotherapist from Bristol. He grew up in Nigeria where his father worked as a doctor. His family returned to England when he was four so his father could develop his medical career. Christianity is an important part of his life, however he finds the literal thinking around Christianity can be quite embarrassing and therefore is not overly public about it. He works with 'The Harbour' a Bristol based charity that offers free counselling and psychotherapy to people with life threatening physical illnesses. He regards family, work and his charity the most important things in his life. Initially on the plinth he wanted to celebrate domestic chores, by acting out those he enjoys, however he decided against this due to risk of weather. He doesn't want to interact with the public as he believes this is something a statue would not do. He has brought up with him an African chair and pillow and plans to sit and relax. He also plans to read some poetry including 'Love' by George Herbert and a Japanese Haiku by Basho, the latter accompanied with gestures.
