Description
Collection of miscellaneous French letters and documents, mainly from and to medical men, 1789-1815
Correspondents include Pierre Chautard, surgeon at Toulon (10) and the director of the Académie des sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Rouen [name illegible] (11).
The collection also contains two letters from Jacques Necker (1732-1804), former director-general of finance to Louis XVI, and his wife Suzanne (7-8).

Acquisition note
Many of the documents were purchased from Parisian dealers, principally Charavay and Degrange, between December 1927 and April 1936 (accs.63700, 64689, 69426, 67371, 67391 and 67469). Others were purchased in London, at sales at Stevens, 6 January 1931, lot 361 (acc.68115); Sotheby's, 13-14 November 1933, lot 361 (acc.67469); and Glendining, 31 January 1935, lot 242 (acc.67979). Accession details for six of the documents are unrecorded.
Ownership note
Document 11 bears an ownership stamp at the top left hand corner, showing an initial letter L in red within a shield.
