About this work

Description

Jean Dee. Translator's holograph MS. In the introductory sentence of the printed version, Poisson states that 'La vie de Jean Dee que nous donnons ici n'est que le résumé d'une biographie latine publiée au XVIIIe siècle 'Vita Joannis Dee, mathematici angli. Scriptore Thoma Schmito. À Londres 1707 in 4to.' This is the life of Dee published by Thomas Smith [1638-1710] in his 'Vitae quorundam eruditissimorum et illustrium virorum'. An English translation by William Alexander Ayton [1817-1909] was published in London by the Theosophical Society in 1907. This MS. differs somewhat from the version printed in 'L'Initiation'. Produced in Paris.
