Correspondence and notes chiefly relating to the policy and administration of the British Society for Social Responsibility in Science (BSSRS), including response to criticism of BSSRS publications from Trevor Jepson, Secretary of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (which contributed to BSSRS funds), and from John Maddox, editor of Nature, 1972; further criticism from the Rowntree Trust and from solicitors acting for Associated British Foods Limited, concerning an article critical of the baking industry, 1978; correspondence, 1981-1982, with the Rowntree Trust concerning an extension to BSSRS’s tenancy of 9 Poland St, London W1; a note on BSSRS’s financial problems, 1989. Also letters of resignation from BSSRS members, including Prof. Hans Kornberg and Sir Hans Krebs, the latter enclosing an offprint article, ‘Some facts of life – biology and politics’, published in Proceedings of the Royal Institution, 1971. Press cuttings relating to BSSRS interests, including Wilkins’ letter to The Times, Jul 1981, on the recent use of CS gas in Liverpool.
