Khunrath, Heinrich (1560-1605)

Confession touchant le Cahos Naturel de la première matière universelle et naturelle du Cahos chimique et phisichimique des choses chimiques naturelles: revüe derechef et augmentée. There are copious marginal and other notes in red and black by an unnamed commentator, probably written c. 1775. These make frequent references to 'Paul Steiner juxta meum MS. de germanico gallicam versionem', as stated in a marginal note on fol. 1. Caillet in his entry No. 10309 appears to doubt the existence of Paul Steiner, though he mentions the publication of a work by him 'Kemnitz oder chemischer Steinbuch' issued in 1723, and re-issued in Epitome in F. J. W. Schröder's 'Neue Sammlung der Bibliothek für die höhere Naturwissenschaften und Chemie' 1774-1776. In MS. 875 [Alchemy: 18th cent.] Paul Steiner is also called 'Stein'.
