Description

Commonplace book of Charles Irving Smith, surgeon at Bangalore, India, containing case and other medical notes, topographical and meteorological memoranda and tables, and miscellaneous commonplaces. With additional notes by his son, Henry Hammond Smith (1850-1924), surgeon. The entries are arranged alphabetically, following the scheme prescribed in Index rerum on the plan of Mr. Todd, author of the Student's Guide (London, 1840), the title page and directions to which have been bound in to the manuscript (ff.2-3). At f.1 is a large, linen-backed folding map of the roads of the Mysore Territories, drawn by Charles Williams, dated Mysore Maramut Office, 22 November 1851.
