About this work

Description

An artwork by Physical Illness Patient 8 - "Henri" which shows a woman in old fashioned clothing to the left, with a written description to the right. The woman is Miss Porter, the assistant to Miss Palmer, who was the head teacher at Waterford Model School in the early years of the twentieth century.

The title has been taken from information provided by Rita Simon to Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

Descriptive lettering reads: "Miss Palmer sketched as she looked when selling cards or drawings of the school work, and her own past in the teaching of the time when drawing and teaching were in their infancy, and Miss Porter was her assistant. I have drawn Miss Porter in a blue frock."

Rita Simon did not classify the artwork. She marked it as number 6 in the sequence on the verso.
