Frederick Bridge, organist and composer. Organist of Westminster Abbey 1882-1918; professor of harmony and counterpoint at the Royal College of Music 1883-1924; King Edward professor of music at London University 1903-. Conductor, Royal Choral Society, 1896-1922 Conductor of music at royal funerals and coronations at Westminster Abbey (Oxford dictionary of national biography). Portrayed holding a volume entitled "Basso continuo" (referring to Bridge's editing and performance of baroque music using original instrumentation) and with a paper lettered "Pepys" in his breast pocket, presumably referring to his course of lectures at the Royal Institution in 1903 on The musical references in Pepys's diary, published as Samuel Pepys, lover of musique (London 1903)
