Biographical note
Nurse Barnes completed her general nursing training at the London Hospital and trained as a midwife during the First World War. After obtaining the RSI Health Visitors' certificate in 1915 she was employed by Surrey County Council Public Health Department from 1918 to 1946. Her duties included home visiting, clinic and welfare centre work and school health in north-east Surrey.
