About this work

Description

Annual reports, accounts, and correspondence. Paton was a member of the ISDD Council and Chair of the Projects and Publications Committee. He also served briefly as a member of the Cannabis Control Study Group. Paton retired from the Council in 1975 (see Agenda item 5, 32nd meeting of the Council, 6 October, 1975), but continued his association in the capacity of Sponsor of the Institute (Agenda item 4). His reasons for resigning are conveyed in a letter to Alan Clark, MP ( 6 October, 1975): "I am personally rather concerned about the direction of ISDD activities. It began well, genuinely fulfilling an interdisciplinary role: but it has steadily moved towards 'softer' sciences and ... to speculative and hypothetical material."
