Description

Dutton, Joseph Everett and Todd, John Lancelot: Expedition Diary Vol. II. Commenced on Board 'Roi des Belges' July 2, 1904, just below Tschumbiri in the Congo Free State. Compilers' holograph MS. Dated from 2 July, 1904 to 12 May, 1905. Dr. Dutton's death from tick fever is recorded on fol. 162 in Todd's entry for 27 February, 1905. The first 2 un-numbered leaves contain 'Heiberg and Todd trip to Sabuka (etc.) from Léopoldville' dated 24-28 March [1904]. On the verso of the last leaf is a pencil sketch by Dr. Dutton of a 'Bargal costume from Behind'. Below this Dr. Todd has written 'an "end-piece" by J. E. Dutton.'
