    At the time of writing this report the new Health Services and Public Health Act I968 and the Public Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations I968 have come to hand and these vd.ll come into force on 1st October 1968, I feel therefore that it would be appropriate to mention briefly in this report the principeil changes brought about by this legislation. ”The principal changes affecting medical practitioners attending patients v;ho are suffering from or suspected to be suffering from notifiable infectious disease or from food poisoning are™ (a) All provisions governing the notification of infectious disease and food poisoning are now to be found in Section 4? to 49 of the Health Services and Public Health Act I968 and the Public Health (infectious Disease) Regulations I968, (b) 'Rhe infectious diseases now to be notified to the medical, officer of health are:- Acute encephalitis Acute meningitis Acute Poliomyelitis Anthrax ^holera Diphtheria Dysentery Ophthalmia neonatorum Paratyphoid Fever Plague Relapsing Fever Scarlet Fever Smallpox Tetanus (amoebic or bacillary) Infective Jaundi.ce Tubercvilosis Leprosy Leptospirosis Malaria Measles T;^rphoid Fever Tophus Vi/hooping Cough Yellow Fever (c) Notification of the diseases listed below is no longer required: Acute influenzal pneumonia Acute primary pneumonia Acute rheumatism Erysipelas Membranous croup Puerperal Pyrexia (d) Responsibility for notifying a case or suspected case of food poisoning or infectious disease rests exclusively on the medical practitioner attending the patient unless he believes that another practitioner has already notified the case.
