The author obtained his M.D. at Paris in 1778 and later became chief editor of the 'Journal de Médecine, Pharmacie [etc.]'. In 1795 he was appointed professor of therapeutics at the École de Santé, afterwards the Faculté de Médecine of which he became dean in 1810. He was excluded from this post for political reasons during the years 1823-1830, but restored in 1830: he died of cholera.
