About this work

Description

Staff Councils were instituted in February 1919. Their establishment may have been linked to the reconstruction after the First World War of the male and female nursing staff, although the reports on this matter in the Retreat Committee minutes for 2 December 1918 and 18 February 1918 do not mention staff councils. The aim of the Councils was the discussion of suggestions beneficial to patients, staff and the institution. They met monthly. They seem to have petered out after October 1924: for a couple of months after that date the Retreat Committee minute book notes that there was no departmental council business to report; thereafter the councils are no longer mentioned.
