    On the register of partially sighted persons there was a total of 55. During the year there had been 4 new registrations, 4 deaths occurred, 3 were transferred out of the county and 2 were registered as blind. Miss S. C. Hammond the junior home teacher resigned her post in May to travel abroad. Miss A. M. Mackie was appointed to replace her and commenced her duties on the 1st September but owing to the sudden and serious illness of her mother she resigned on the 21st December. Consequently, most of the home teaching in the county has been carried out by Mrs. Brown during the year. Mrs. E. M. Brown the senior home teacher attended the Home Teacher’s Refresher Course at Oxford from the 23rd to the 30th March and the Home Teachers’ Conference and Centenary Ei London on the 4th June. She also attended a Civil Defence Course at Falfield and passed with a full certificate. The secretary atttended a conference in London regarding the Piercy Committee Report on the Rehabilitation, Training and Resettlement of Disabled Persons in so far as it affects blind persons. One blind man received training at Letchworth in assembly and is now employed at the Hotpoint Factory at Peterborough. Another blind man attended a very successful course of social rehabilitation at Bridgenorth and one other attended a course of industrial rehabilitation at Torquay. One lad has been admitted to the Hethersett Centre for Blind Adolescents. Between his leaving Linden Lodge, Wansford, a school for the blind and his admission to Hethersett he received lessons in Braille from the home teacher. The Royal National Institute for the Blind increased its place- ment fee by one shilling per registered blind person between the ages of 16 and 59. It is now £1 2s. per annum, (per person). At the annual meeting held on the 19th June Alderman J. W. A. Ollard was reappointed President for the ensuing year. Alderman H. Payne w'as reappointed chairman of the executive committee. Talks on the work of the society have been given by the secretary to members of the Inner Wheel, Women’s Section of the British Legion and to Women’s Institutes. The holiday hostel at Hunstanton continues to give beneficial and happy holidays to our own blind folk and to those of other counties. During the year 36 blind and 27 guides from the Isle of Ely and 71 blind and 30 guides from other counties besides 7 welfare cases visited the hostel. At Christmas time there were 11 blind persons and their guides at the hostel.
