About this work

Description

Conceptual artwork illustrating how humans may evolve in the future to become completely self-sufficient. Depicted here is a sweat gland in the skin which has been bioengineered to function as a digestive system. Bacteria in the skin feed on sweat and convert it into nutrients. These are then absorbed by the body into the bloodstream. This image forms part of an ongoing project "After Information", a speculative scenario which imagines a post-informational era where biotechnologies are commonplace and widely accepted into human life.
