Notes
Title vignettes.
Plate 17's accompanying letterpress leaf includes note to binder.
There is another ed. of the same date and place, but with publisher's name in imprint spelt "Im-hoff". They are distinguished by Gibbs but not by Lindeboom.
An unauthorized ed. of this work originally appeared in 1724 under the title 'Institutiones et experimenta chemiae'. It was repudiated by Boerhaave. The first authorized ed. was published Leyden: Severinus, 1732. This is one of several later eds. of that work published in the same year.
Paisley, 'Deutsche Buchdrucker ... 1701-1750' lists Imhof(f) as functioning from about 1730 in Basel; however, privileges of present ed. describe him as of Tübingen. Leyden imprint in present ed. may be false. All three imprints are also found in other Imhof(f) eds. of similar date.
Copy 1 Supplier/Donor: Pickering & Chatto. Note: 2 v. in 1. Binding: Contemp. calf, spine gilt, red morocco spine label. 4 leaves of prelims wanting from v. 1. Ownership inscription on front free endpaper: Ex libris S. Bourgeois, 1736.
