The surgeon, right, kneels to attend to the leg of a man, seated left. They are in 17th century dress. The bloody leg-sores are depicted more in the manner of 19th-century heroic depictions of surgical operations. The surgeon has a huge domed head. Right background, someone looks on from behind a door
