About this work

Description

In 1928 the recently established Lancashire, Cheshire and North Wales Council conducted a large scale appeal for funds and subsequently formed 3 Group Executives to manage those funds: Liverpool; Manchester; Cheshire. In 1948 it was agreed by the Group Executive that the Liverpool Cancer Control Organization (LCCO) should take over the funds and responsibilities of the Group Executive. The Group Executive thought that it was time to bring to an end the independent activities of the Lancashire and Cheshire and North Wales Council as an 'autonomous council' of the Campaign and decided that the National Appeal should be conducted by the Campaign's HQ for the whole country. They believed that a local appeal would be uneconomic and contrary to the best interests of the Campaign. On 2 Dec 1949 a meeting was held between representatives of this regional Council and London HQ of the Campaign. It was agreed that the Council should relinquish its autonomy with consequent termination of the Trust and of direct grants under the Trust Deed to the Group Executives. As the Liverpool Executive's funds had been transferred to the LCCO there was no longer any need for it to exist and they resolved to dissolve themselves. This was made final by the Grand Council in 1952.
