About this work

Description

A painting by Psychiatric Patient 9 - "Rowana" showing a volcano. "This came out of one of her insane episodes, she is released into emotion, not schizoid, perhaps a manic episode. The volcano spills bad things, but mountains are extinct volcanoes" (Rita Simon).

The painting is reproduced in The Symbolism of Style page 79, fig. 5.4.

The title has been taken from the caption used in Rita Simon's publication.
