A.D. 1855.—N° 1806. 3 Sleight's Improved Compound for Curing Disorders of the Bowels, Cholera, $-c. proportion of parts of the several ingredients which I have found to answer in practice, and therefore recommend, are the following, viz*:—I take of the pulverized apple of the pinus picea, or the silver fir tree, two drams, and add thereto three drops of each of the essential oils of cassia or cinnamon, and of peppermint, cloves, and of nutmegs; I then add one dram of spirits of wine, or alcohol, in order to dissolve the essential oils, and add one dram of tincture of opium. This mixture should be reduced to a proper strength to be admi¬ nistered when required by the addition of eight ounces of water. About one ounce of this mixture may be taken from time to time when required, and may be continued until the pain or symptoms of derangement of the system abate, and appear to yield to the influence of the medicine. Having now described my Invention of an improved compound for curing- disorders of the bowels, and explained the best means with which I am acquainted for carrying the same into effect, I claim, in conclusion, the com¬ bination of ingredients above set forth, particularly the employment for the purposes above mentioned of the apple of the pinus, or the silver fir tree.
