Second heart transplant, Istanbul, Turkey. Farm worker Ali Akgul, 26, lying in bed in the Istanbul Chest Surgery Centre Hospital on November 26th, before his heart transplant operation. The operation was performed by Dr Siyami Ersek, 48, who with his team of 35, carried out the 4-hour operation. The donor was Cihat Önal, 51, a construction worker, seriously injured during a traffic accident. 28th November, 1968. United Press International.
