The folklore tales are taken from the following publications: George Ewart Evans, The Pattern Under the Plough; E. & M. A. Radford, Encyclopaedia of Superstitions; D. James, Folk and Modern Medicine; John Wesley, Primitive Physic (1st Edition) and The Diary of Samuel Pepys.

Some examples of the Folklore included are as follows: advice on how to lessen the pains of gout, (by boiling rosemary leaves and tying them, wrapped in linen, around the afflicted area), and advice on removing 'evil humours,' (by smelling a marigold plant).
