This is a very detailed history of body snatching and the law in the US and Britain from the early 18th Century up till the Anatomical Act of 1887. Surgeons and medical students desperate to extend their knowledge of human anatomy provided the incentive for grave robbing, an ocupation which became a major business by the mid-19th century and inspired William Burke and William Hare to commit murder to collect 10 guineas per corpse from Dr Knox of Edinburgh. The programme contains many episodes of dramatic reconstruction.
