Description
A phased replacement of the CCU pre-fab buildings began in 1979. However, due to high estimates for the complete rebuild of the site, the project was scaled back in 1981, and the MRC was only able to authorise a programme of limited repair and refurbishment to existing accommodation.
The contractors resubmitted proposals for the rebuild of the unit in 1983; however, these plans were rejected as the MRC felt there was no need to completely redevelop the site while the future of the unit was uncertain.
