Notes on phrenological lectures by F J Gall, taken at Paris in 1810. Inscription on original spine 'Dr Gall's Lectures at Paris 1810' seen before acquisition, but damaged at auction and no longer legible after purchase. Fragmentary label on former front cover '-le House, -lisbury.'

Biographical note

The initials 'JR', probably those of the note-taker, follow an interpolation on f. 155r. The handwriting closely resembles that of James Roberton, a Paris-based doctor whose bequest to the Edinburgh Phrenological Society became a cause célèbre, (cf. a Roberton letter of 1836, National Library of Scotland MS. 7241, f. 40).
