    WIMBORNE-Mr. Population 1S91,3,546. 1895, middle estimated, 3,770. Deaths, 46, 12'2 per 1000. Births, 85, 22.5 per 1000. Natural increase, 39. Infantile Mortality per 1000- Births, 106. c. H. Although the Death-rate for 1893 has gone up from 10-7 to 12-2 per 1000 ; this is mainly due to the increased infantile mortality Only 3 infants died in 189-1, and 9' in 1895. The infantile mortality, per 1000 Births, has increased from 42 to 106, and, it could hardly be expected, that the low rate in 1894 could be continued. On the otner Hand, the Birth-rate, although still very low, has gone up, from 20 in 1894, to 22-5 per 1000, 85 births having been registered in 1895, as against 72 in 1894 ; 10 deaths of old persons occurred, as against 21 in 1894. I am g^ad to again point out the fact that no death from notifiable disease occurred, and the Zymotic mortality is again I, n „ Deaths. - Altogether 52 deaths were registered, but 7 of these were deaths of persons coming to the district while ill ; on the other hand one death of a Wimborne person was registered outside, and the true mortality is 46, or 12-2 per 1000 about. The deaths of persons coming to the town while ill, included 1 Brain disease, 2 Influenza and its sequel. Of the 46 deaths, 20 were males, and 26 females. Infants 9 (6 males and 3 females), 3 Bronchitis, &c., 2 Convulsions, 4 Debility from birth 1-5, 3 (2 males and 1 female), 2 Bronchitis, &c. 5-65, 24 (9 males and 15 females), 2 Injury, 2 Phthisis, 3 Cancer, 1 Bronchitis, Sea., and 1 Brain disease. Over bo, 10 (3 males and 7 females), 1 Senile Phthisis, 1 Cancer, 3 Bronchitis, &c., 1 disease of Brain, and 1 of Heart. Births —Of the 85 Births 42 were males and 43 females. Zymotic Diseases. 23 cases were reported under the Notification of Diseases Act ; 17 Scarlatina, 1 Diphtheria, 1 simple continued fever, and 4 .Erysipelas. No death occurred, and the cases were all of a mild type. Scarlatina.—A series of cases occurred among children attending St. John’s School. The schools were closed for a time, and disinfected and cleaned. The other cases were isolated .ones, and did not spread beyond the family first attacked. Diphtheria.—k mild case was reported. The patient fell ill soon after change of house. The new residence had been emDtv some time, and I attribute the illness to this fact. ■ Continued Fever.—A person suffering from mild continued fever was brought to her parents’ house. She contracted the illness outside the district, and no other case occurred. General.—During 1895 the sanitary condition of the district has been much improved. The Inspector and myself have inspected the slaughter-houses and pigsties in the district, and reported fully to the Authority. I trust the District Council will adopt my recommendation to amend their by-laws, and disallow pigsties in the Urban District ; or, at least, increase the distance from a dwelling-house or road, as I suggested, which would amount practically to the same thing. It is impossible to keep pigs in a town without creating a nuisance to the neighbours within 80 or 100 yards distance. I also hope the time may soon arrive when a public abattoir will be provided for the butchers of the town. F The drainage of the town has been examined, and drains laid down in the new parts. This work will be continued during the ensuing year. 6 The number of earth closets in the district is still increasing, and the removal of rubbish, emptying of ash-pits and earth closets and the supply of earth, has been satisfactorily carried out during the year. I attach great importance to the regular, and cleanly performance of this work, and hope there may be no complaints of incivility, or carelessness, as it is of importance the inhabitants should be encouraged to continue to use the earth system, which has been coming into use for some years, and which with the improved water supply, has been a means of banishing fever from the town. The water supplied by the Company has been of good quality and plentiful, and is being introduced into many fresh houses. I hope soon it will be universally laid on, at any rate to the houses in the New Boro’, and lower parts of the town. Union Workhouse.—8 deaths were registered during 1895 ; all over 65, 4 males from Cranborne Rural, and 4 males from Wimborne Rural District, 1 from Cancer, and 1 disease of Brain, Wimborne ; 1 disease of Heart, Cranborne. .i Victoria Cottage Hospital.— 3 deaths, all of males, 1 infant from Berkshire ; 25-65, Wimborne Rural, 1 Bronchitis, &c, and 1 disease of Brain.
