    THIRD REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OE THE Leeds Association for the Prevention and Cure of Tuberculosis. During the past year the Association has continued to extend its work. They have increased the accommodation for Patients at the Gateforth Sanatorium from 13 to 27 beds. Women Patients have been taken in since May last, and the arrangements for this purpose sketched out in the last Annual Report have worked satisfactorily. During the year, 80 Patients (if one be counted who only stayed a week) have been treated in the Sanatorium. Excluding the 20 who were still in the Home on December 31st, 21 have been discharged as practically cured, 24 as very greatly im- proved and fit for work, and 14 as slightly or not at all improved. The last number includes bad cases mostly of an acute type or of the advanced disease. In the last Annual Report it was staled that some cases will not improve under this or any other method of treatment, but that it is some- times necessary to make a trial before this can be ascertained. Occasionally such trial cases have improved so unexpectedly that it does not seem proper to exclude them altogether. Subsequent experience has cpiite conlirmed this view, but the Committee think that these cases should only remain in the Sanatorium for as short a time as possible if no improvement occurs. Thus three to six weeks should be a sufficiently long trial period. Some of the cases referred to above have been kept in longer than this, but it was largely due in some instances to
