Biographical note

Throughout her career, Savage was an avid proponent of the NHS. She was committed to the founding principals of the Service and vocally critical of the various rationalisations of successive governments. She has been particularly critical of the private provision of clinical treatments and the privatisation of the Service generally. She has been involved with many campaigning and pressure groups (NHS Unlimited and NHS Consultants' Association for example) and continues to work to reverse the privatisation through the organisation Keep Our NHS Public, of which she is co-chair.
