About this work

Description

(Left) a mother feeds a baby with a bottle containing a proprietary drink (the packaging is on the table); (right) the mother and child sit in the doorway of their basement dwelling, and a little boy plays with a toy horse in the street: all three are in the shadow of an adjacent building, as the sunlight passes over them. The basement dwelling is the business premises of Paul Bumke, possibly a builder, as it carries the sign of crossed mallets
