About this work

Description

Watercolour drawing of a tongue on the dorsum of which is a large deeply excavated tertiary syphilitic ulcer. From a woman aged 23, who seven months previously had suffered from a sore throat and rash on the body. The ulcer on the tongue rapidly healed under treatment with potassium iodide.
