About this work

Description

Watercolour and pencil drawing of a chronic ulcer of the leg, showing the process of healing by skin grafts. It had existed for four years. Sixteen days before the drawing was made 21 grafts were taken from the arm, laid on the ulcer and covered with isinglass plaster. Of these grafts, 15 were successful. Drawn by Richard Milbourne West whilst a student at St Bartholomew's Medical School.
