About this work

Description

The device is a paraphrase of Matthew 10.16 "Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." Thomas Crenius, loc. cit, cites "Frideric. Taubmannus: "Simplicitas astu bene fermentata triumphat." as being a hexameter paraphrase of Matthew 10.16, 'Estote prudentes, sicut serpentes, & simplices, sicut columbae'. Taubmann was one of the commentators in this edition of Plautus
