Description

A collection of miscellaneous French notarial documents, 1491-1687.

1. Notification of the appearance of one Germain Chrestien in the court of the prévôté of Auxerre, to undertake to resign the office of measurer of corn and grain in the town in favour of François Troue, 29 March 1491. Attested by Picart de Pogues, royal notary. Endorsed with a subsequent note of execution of the deed of resignation, signed by Guillaume Grail, one of the keepers of the royal seal in the prévôté.

2. Agreement relating to the payment of funds on behalf of a certain Catherine Drouet, 17 February 1664. Attested by a notary [name illegible].

3. Receipt by Louis Antoine Dumoulin, Jacques Charles de la Vigne, and Philippe François d'Espée, 'grand valets de pied' of the Dauphine of France, for 225 livres. 2 April 1687. Signed in addition by Raul Duras and a certain Dumée, who appear to have been notaries.

Acquisition note

No.1 was purchased at Glendinning's auction, 14/15 November 1932, part of lot 47 (acc.78471); 2 and 3 constituted lot 32 of Stevens' auction on 10 December 1928 (acc.68096).

Ownership note

Nos.1 and 2 bear library stamps in the shape of a small blue anchor in the bottom right-hand corner.
