About this work
Glossary of terms compiled from Eighteenth century English cookery-books. A selection of 199 words. Author's holograph MS. The entry 'Stomachs of an ox' is illustrated by two rough drawings, one in ink and crayon, the other in pencil. It seems to have been started about 1900, as there are several references dated 1899. The latest date is 24/4/1926 in the entry for 'Quavivers (4)', but this is clearly a very late addition.
1 volume 253 ll. (last bl.). 4to. 23 × 18 cm. Unbound in patent folder. Written on the rectos only, a few additions in red ink.
From the John Hodgkin Collection of Cookery-books.
Database description transcribed from S.A.J. Moorat, Catalogue of Western Manuscripts on Medicine and Science in the Wellcome Historical Medical Library (London: Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, 1962-1973).
