About this work

Description

An artwork by Tuberculosis Patient 4 - "Hal" which shows two cowboys on horseback in a dessert. To the right are two cows in a fenced in area with a shed. In the background are ranges of brown mountains. Rita Simon said, "This is the first of two paintings; the other may be stored temporarily in the Styles sequence (it shows a dream of a scenic reailway going over chasms). He was anxious that he was misbehaving in the ward, he was leaping around, although the regime was strict bed-rest. The drawing showed him that he was endangering himself."

On the verso are some rough pencil sketches of horses and Rita Simon's address written in ink.

This artwork was numbered '2' in Rita Simon's sequence.

The title and and quote from Rita Simon are taken from notes made by Wellcome staff in conversation with Rita Simon between 1995 and 1997.

Rita Simon classified this work as Traditional Transition.
