About this work

Description

Collection of seventeen sermons, together with a number of others, incomplete.

Author's holograph MSS.

These sermons have apparently been attributed to 'Stephen Jenner, Father of Dr. Jenner' by previous owners, and some have been so inscribed in pencil. The error seems to have arisen from an inscription in the latest volume by the hand of William Davies (1769-1849), dated 1829: 'Stephen Jenner M.A., Vicar of Berkeley, son-in-law to Henry Head, Rector of Cranford, Master of St. Catherine's Prebendary of Bristol, etc., my great-grandfather'.

Biographical note

Henry Head was Vicar of Berkeley, 1691-1728, and Canon of Bristol 1722-1739. His daughter married Stephen Jenner [1702-1754], the father of Dr. Edward Jenner, and the inheritor of these volumes.

Edward Jenner's sister married the Revd. William Davies [1741-1817], father of the writer of a note in the final volume.

Some of the volumes bear the signature of Sarah Bloxsome [b. 1812], daughter of the younger Davies.
