PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION left by Alexander Melville Clark at the Office of the Commissioners of Patents, with his Petition, on the 14th July 1871.—A communication from abroad by Francis Baker, of the City, County, and State of New York, United 5 States of America. I, Alexander Melville Clark, of 53, Chancery Lane, in the County of Middlesex, Patent Agent, do hereby declare the nature of the said Invention for “ Improved Medicinal Compounds for the Treatment of Cancer and other Diseases,” to be as follows :— 10 This Invention consists in the preparation of medicinal compounds for the cure of cancer and other diseases, in which compounds the plant known as cundurango forms an ingredient. The said plant is found in Ecuador and other parts of South America. In order to prepare an improved medicinal compound I prefer to 15 use the bark of the plant cundurango, although any other part of the plant may be employed. The bark is to be finely divided, and is then steeped or boiled in a sufficient quantity of water or alcohol to form an extract of the desired strength, and the compound thus made is
