Biographical note
Akerman, John Yonge (1806-1873), numismatist and antiquary, born in London. In January 1834, Akerman was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Akerman specialized in numismatics and his main contribution to this field lay in popularizing the study of coins in England. He died in 1873.
