Segment 1 The surgical anatomy of the temporal bone is demonstrated using a bone that has been already removed. Two bones are compared, one removed in a simple mastoid operation and one removed in a radical mastoid operation. An infant's bone is also shown and its surgical anatomy explained. Segment 2 The operation for acute mastoiditis begins. An incision is made behind the ear. The anatomy of the bone is pointed out. The intertitles give technical details of the steps of the procedure. Segment 3 Forceps are used to gouge away overhanging ledges of bone. The intertitles indicate important aspects of the anatomy of the area. The cavity is treated for the mastoiditis with a paste.
